Aromatherapy – Benefits of Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil is one of my all time favourite natural remedies. The peppermint herb has been used for thousands of years as a digestive stimulant and is known as a tonic for the liver and gallbladder.

Just one drop of peppermint oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea, so remember, this is pretty potent stuff. It means that my 15 ml bottle of oil below is equal to about 7000 cups of peppermint tea!

Peppermint oil is often used as a decongestant as it will relieve the stuffy nasal passages that many people get during hayfever season. It will improve mental concentration, relieve many headaches, lower a fever and even clear mucous from the lungs.

Peppermint oil will also relieve pain and inflammation when applied to a bruise or injury.

Many people do not know that peppermint oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal qualities, and has been used to expel intestinal worms. Peppermint oil has also been studied for its effects as  an anti-cancer agent

It is difficult to get essential oils that are not loaded with chemicals (see my previous post on lavender oil) even if the label on the bottle says 100% pure. The world wide demand for essential oils has outstripped the supply by hundreds of times and the pressure to extend the oil with chemicals and use cheaper production methods is enormous. I buy from Young Living Essential Oils. You can order true peppermint oil here.

I gratefully accept your comments and feedback.
