Whether you are aware of it or not, YOU are player in a game, a lifelong high stakes game called “TAXES”. Your name was entered into this game at the moment your birth was registered. Unless you want to live your life as a hermit in the woods (and that does appeal to me at times) you have no choice but to play.
There ARE rules to this game and if you don’t know the rules YOU LOSE. Sorry ’bout that.

Governments are in the business of taxation. In the eyes of the government you and I are taxpayers and we remain so until the day we die. If you and your spouse are blessed to have a child, in the government’s ledgers you have just created a new taxpayer.
There is a nasty trend happening now. Bankrupt governments everywhere are squeezing taxpayers more and more. Many methods which were available to taxpayers to minimize their tax load have been eliminated. Fewer tax shelters and deductions remain every year and more rules have been introduced to curtail tax planning. It is clear that the government’s mission is to extract as much as citizens will tolerate.
It just so happens that a disproportionate share of the tax burden is paid by those who are least able to afford it. Corporations and the wealthy have any number of tax loopholes and many pay very little income tax. Wage earners do not have such options. The government grabs a large portion of the wage earner’s money before he or she ever sees it. When it comes to tax time the wage earner gets some of that money back, but does the government pay you interest on YOUR money that it withheld all year?
The citizens are overtaxed and the taxation system is grossly unfair. In 2009 General Electric reported earnings of over $10 billion and not only paid nothing in taxes, it recorded a tax benefit of $1.1 billion. See What The Top U.S. Companies Pay In Taxes

To protect your feathers, start your own business.
For the government, the process of collecting income tax is somewhat like the farmer who plucks feathers from his geese. The farmer collects the most feathers from the geese that hiss the least.
I live in Canada and here if you feel the government is assessing your income tax unfairly it is your right to challenge the government by going before a tax court to appeal your case.
Governments do not like to be challenged in a tax court. They will avoid it if they can. It looks bad when they are heavy handed and if the word gets out often enough the taxpayers could revolt.
So if you hiss a lot and make it more difficult for the government to extract income tax from you, the odds are good your auditor will move on to pluck a more docile goose.
My advice is, if you are not already in business, start your own business RIGHT NOW. Begin the process of reducing your income through legitimate business expenses. And, start searching around for professional advice on how to defend your rights as a taxpayer.
I gratefully accept your comments and feedback.
May there be peace in our hearts.
May there be peace for all humanity.
May there be perfect peace on earth.
